The Book that Refuses to Die
There is no book in human history quite like the Bible. Critics have mocked it. Governments have tried to ban it. Skeptics have attempted to bury it. Yet the Word of God remains.
Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active…” The Bible is not merely an ancient collection of religious writings sitting on a shelf gathering dust. It is alive because the God who inspired it is alive. It still speaks, still convicts, still comforts, and still changes lives today.
The tragedy is that many people own a Bible but rarely open it. We carry it to church, display it in our homes, and sometimes even collect multiple copies, yet we neglect to read it for ourselves. What if we read God’s Word more—not simply what other people say about it? Commentaries, devotionals, podcasts, and sermons can all be helpful, but nothing can replace personally opening the Scriptures and listening for the voice of God. There is power in spending time directly in His Word.
People ask me often for Bible recommendations. That can feel overwhelming because there are so many choices available today. The best version you can own is the one you read. My personal favorite is the NIV Study Bible with all of its notes. I also recommend the NIV Application Study Bible because it does an excellent job connecting Scripture to everyday life. The important thing is not finding the “perfect” Bible but developing the habit of reading it consistently. Make a plan and read the Word.
God already has something to say about what you are facing today. His Word is living, active, and powerful enough to meet you right where you are. Five minutes in Scripture can change the direction of your day. The Bible has outlived every generation that tried to bury it, and it will outlive whatever is trying to bury you. Open the Book—and let God speak.
